Convicted Killer In Grays Harbor Courtroom Trying To Have Sentence Reduced

In 1995 he was convicted and sentenced to life behind bars

A convicted killer was in a Grays Harbor courtroom yesterday trying, for the third time, to have his sentence reduced. Brian Bassett was 16 years in 1995 when he shot and killed his parents and drowned his 5-year-old brother at the family’s home in McCleary.  He was convicted and sentenced to life behind bars a year later.  After the state Supreme Court ruled in 2012 that life sentences for teenagers is cruel and unconstitutional, Bassett has been trying to get his sentence reduced. Yesterday Bassett’s sister testified she believes she would have been killed too if she had been at home at the time and asked for him to remain locked up.  The judge could rule in the next few weeks.
