East Grays Harbor Fire Offers Holiday Safety Tips

As you deck the halls this holiday season, East Grays Harbor Fire and Rescue wants you to be fire smart.

As you deck the halls this holiday season, East Grays Harbor Fire and Rescue wants you to be fire smart. A small fire that starts in or spreads to a Christmas tree can grow large very quickly. Fire experts say to make sure and cut 2 inches from the base of the tree to allow it to absorb water.  Always place your tree at least three feet away from any heat source like a fireplace or heat vent.  Make sure and add water to the stand and add fresh water daily.  If you’ve got an artificial tree, make sure you see a tag indicating it’s been treated with fire retardant, all of the newer trees should have one.
