After a recommendation from the Homeless Housing Committee at this week’s meeting, the Aberdeen City Council voted to not have this year’s cold weather shelter be in downtown Aberdeen. On Wednesday, the committee said in years past, the cold weather shelter has not had a positive impact on local business or the surrounding community. The county sponsored shelter had two location proposals in Aberdeen and one in Westport this year. Meanwhile churches are allowed by state law to open a shelter at will.
