Sterling Landing to close to the public beginning August 30

The Port of Grays Harbor will be closing Sterling Landing, a popular undeveloped recreational site on the Wynoochee River, due to ongoing public safety concerns effective August 30, 2024.

Montesano, WA – The Port of Grays Harbor will be closing Sterling Landing, a popular undeveloped recreational site on the Wynoochee River, due to ongoing public safety concerns effective August 30, 2024.

The site will be gated off and “No Trespassing” signs will be posted until further notice. Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office will be patrolling the site to help enforce the closure. The Port of Grays Harbor takes great pride in offering our community and visitors waterfront and recreational access,” shared Satsop Business Park General Manager Alissa Shay. “Unfortunately, several recent public safety incidents at Sterling Landing have led to the difficult decision to close the site to public access.”

Sterling Landing will remain closed until further notice. The Port plans to reevaluate the closure prior to fall fishing season if public safety incidents cease.

Founded in 1911, the Port of Grays Harbor is one of Washington State’s oldest port districts and Washington’s only deep-water port located directly on the Pacific Ocean. The Port of Grays Harbor operates 4 deep-water marine terminals, the Westport Marina, Bowerman Airport, Grays Harbor ship assist services, numerous public waterfront access facilities, in addition to industrial and business parks throughout the County. Strategically located midway between Seattle and Portland and less than 1 1⁄2 hours from open sea, the Port of Grays Harbor provides businesses a diverse portfolio of facilities.
