A fungus that's deadly to bats has been found in more Washington state counties. White-nose syndrome is a fungus that coats the wings of bats while they hibernate. They often leave hibernation early and die of starvation. The fungus has been detected in 11 new counties this year including Grays Harbor and it was confirmed on bats in Benton and Thurston counties. The fungus is not dangerous to humans, but people can spread the fungus on their shoes, especially when hiking in areas where bats live
