Hoquiam police are warning residents of a black bear that’s been getting into trash cans in and around Gale Street. Police officers spotted the bear on Halloween night between Lawrence Drive and Gale Street. Fish and wildlife officials were made aware of the situation. A few reminders to keep you safe if you encounter a bear include do not throw anything at the bear and avoid direct eye contact. Also do not run unless shelter is very close since bears can run up to 35 mph. If the bear is moving towards you, clap your hands and stomp your feet to try and scare it away.
