No "Blake Fix" As Session Closes

The bill would have extended many of the same bad policies that have caused the problems.

In the final hours of the 2023 Washington State Legislative session the controversial "Blake fix," Senate Bill 5536, failed to pass the House with a vote of 43-55. Rep Jim Walsh, of Aberdeen issued a statement on the measure saying in part that the bill would have extended many of the same bad policies that have caused the problems we face throughout the state. The failure of SB 5536 allows local county and city governments to add policies and ordinances to respond to the drug problem more effectively in their community.
