A family of hikers discovered the man’s body several miles south of the dam on Saturday.

The identity of the body found in Wynoochee River this weekend could be released at any time. A family of hikers discovered the man’s body several miles south of the dam on Saturday. One of the hikers had to drive about 30 miles to get into cell phone range in order to call emergency crews. The Montesano Fire Department along with the Thurston County Special Operations team launched a recovery mission. By Monday afternoon a 20-man crew was able to recover the body Monday afternoon. The man was identified by police, but they are holding his name until next of kin is notified.
