A proposed new ordinance in Aberdeen could create fines for out of shape vacant buildings after local businesses complained about trespassers and vandalism at some of the more dilapidated structures.

A proposed new ordinance in Aberdeen could create fines for out of shape vacant buildings after local businesses complained about trespassers and vandalism at some of the more dilapidated structures. At this week’s city council meetings, members discussed making a Vacant Building Program by creating a new ordinance. Although council members made it clear that no specifics have been discussed yet, there was talk about focusing on the more obvious vacant buildings in Aberdeen with broken and boarded up windows. There seemed to be an agreement that any fines collected through the program would go into the Good Neighbors Revolving Loan Fund for business owners who want to make improvements to their building.
