To purchase PPE for wildland fire fighting.
The Hoquiam Fire Department has announced a grant from the Sierra Pacific Foundation for the department to purchase PPE for wildland fire fighting. The $1,600 in funds will be able to purchase the needed equipment for personnel to use during prolonged firefighting activities involving timber, brush or grass fires. Fire officials say using regular bunker gear when fighting wildfires can cause heat stress quickly and limit maneuverability. See the thank you message from Hoquiam Fire on the department’s Facebook page.
