House Approves $9,950,000 To Support Aberdeen-Hoquiam Flood Protection Project

Which will help the region more effectively collect and convey runoff from intense storm events.

The House of Representatives approved $9,950,000 to support the Aberdeen-Hoquiam Flood Protection Project. The twelve-bill government funding package, which passed the House with bipartisan support, included $9,950,000 in federal funding for the Aberdeen-Hoquiam Flood Protection Project - which will help the region more effectively collect and convey runoff from intense storm events, and significantly reduce the economic burden caused by flooding for the communities. 

The Aberdeen-Hoquiam Flood Protection Project is comprised of two levees, the North Shore Levee and the North Shore Levee - West Segment, which are needed to protect the Cities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam against coastal flood events between the Wishkah and Hoquiam rivers north of the Chehalis River and Grays Harbor Estuary. The project also includes the construction of the Fry Creek Pump Station.

The Aberdeen-Hoquiam Flood Protection Project when completed, will eliminate NFIP-mandated flood insurance and building code requirements, save local residents millions of dollars, and protect an estimated 5,100 properties and 1,354 businesses.

The Community Project Funding request was supported by: the Grays Harbor Council of Governments, the Port of Grays Harbors Commissioners, the City of Aberdeen, the City of Hoquiam, and Greater Grays Harbor Incorporated.
