A bill sponsored by Aberdeen State Rep. Jim Walsh to allow family burials on private property received unanimous approval in the house Monday. HB1037 would change the state's current law, which requires all burials to be conducted by registered cemetery corporations. Walsh said this bill will help keep a long tradition of living out west is being allowed to bury family members on family-owned land. He added that this bill helps to clarify the parameters of that tradition. The republican said the bill was introduced at the request of several 19th district constituents. The measure now goes to the state senate for consideration.
